About Us

You can find us on the corner of Divisadero St and Hayes St, where we've been serving the community since 1992. With a history as rich as the local ingredients that go into our original dishes, Bean Bag Cafe remains as one of San Francisco's favorite places to eat, drink, and connect with locals.

You know that awesome neighborhood spot everyone’s always telling you to check out? You’ve found it. You won’t find any beanbags here, but you will find nectarous beverages, an enticing variety of freshly made eats, friendly staff, a stellar ambiance, and a happy hour that just won’t quit.

Bean Bag Cafe has true San Francisco flare, and might be Western Addition’s (some people call it NOPA) best-kept secret. A community and neighborhood spot nestled at Divisadero and Hayes, Bean Bag Cafe has been offering heart and soul since 1992.

Want scrambled eggs and French toast at 3? Absolutely. What about a scrumptious crépe filled with all your favorite flavors? Oh, you mean like the Chicken Pesto or Tuscany, uh-huh. Creamy pasta for dinner? Served every day after 5pm, along with crave-worthy appetizers like crispy calamari, crispy tofu, a cheesy quesadilla, or the best fries in the bay.

Fun fact: Did you know, the longer coffee beans are roasted not only the darker and bolder the flavor, but also the less caffeine there is?

At Bean Bag all our coffees are organic and fair trade, and roasted locally at McLaughlin Coffee Company in Emeryville, so the beans are always fresh and bursting with flavor.

Love our coffee? You know you can take our delicious coffee home with you. We sell every coffee we feature by the 1/2 and whole pound. Ask and we’ll grind it fresh for you!


Dark, exotic, and a little culturally refined, this Frenchie features some of the most exceptional Peruvian coffee beans in the world. With an excellent balance of acidity and body, Peru maintains it’s refined composure with a rich, bold, smooth finish.


Our signature blend, first created by Mike in the 80s, is our best seller. A blend of three of the world’s most exotic beans, House will comfort you with it’s rich flavor and aroma, and keep you cool, calm, and collected with a smooth full-bodied finish.


Need a jump-start? This coffee is your guy. Mike’s personal favorite, Sumatra, features the most heavily and heavenly bodied beans in the world, and is our most caffeinated coffee. We want you to enjoy all the natural sweetness and nuttiness of this bean, so Sumatra is a Vienna Roast. What is a Vienna Roast? Slow and long, a Vienna Roast intensifies character and brings out flavors that might otherwise be hidden.


You’ve gotta try this one. Highest quality beans from Central America make up our Hazelnut coffee. Medium roasted for a beautiful brown color, its then finished off with a touch of our organic natural hazelnut flavor. A house favorite and bestseller, Hazelnut is sweet, creamy and a little nutty—the perfect coffee to wake up to every morning.
